Document Preview

Here is a suggestion that would make the life of all java swing developers very easy. A component that can preview Microsoft documents.
We have looked at making use of POI and iText libraries, which grabs the text of the document, but we looses the formats.

What would also be very helpfull If the document parser is a seperate API to the GUI component, this way the parsing can be done on the server and the viewing on the fron-end.

I would think this an ideal place to use JNI. There are so many different kind of documents, it will be overwhelming if we want to support all of them by understanding their formats. I saw Windows Vista can support preview of all kinds of documents, it would be cool if we (or somone such as JDIC project) use JNI to access it.
