Make FloorTabbedPane behave more like Outlook 2003 Navbar

Would it be possibe to update the FloorTabbedPane component to act and behave more like the Outlook 2003 navigation bar? The current behavior of the component is seen in outdated versions of Outlook. The recent version of Outlook have a more sophisticated navigation bar.

The picture below, shows an example of what I mean:
