Hi Rich,
We thought about this of course. Eclipse combined two functions into west side bar - quick view and perspectives. In JIDE Docking Framework, side bars are used solely for autohide (or quick view). Also we have four side bars. So it'll be a little awkward for us to mimic Eclipse's side bar. We are still working on a toolbar product so we want to wait for it before adding more toolbars. Or we can use a dialog. However it will introduce dependency to JIDE Dialogs which we don't want. So we decided to add all the methods we need - getAvailableLayouts(), saveLayout(), removeLayout() etc and let users do it themselves. Using those methods, it is just one or two lines of code in each actionPerformced, very simple. We will probably post sample code to the forum or include in our examples so that other people can use them.
