Menu does not have gradient background on Windows 7

Postby huazheng » Mon Jun 14, 2010 1:51 pm

I don't know if this is the right forum.

If you run the demo on Windows 7, menu bar under all look and feel and styles has a solid background. Other apps, for example Eclipse, show a gradient menu bar background.

I use Eclipse style, and it's in EclipseMenuUI#installDefaults where menu background is set.

Our Office207 style is different from that of Window 7. We used the same style as in Office 2007 (such as Outlook 2007 as that's the only app has menu).

Thanks,

Office 2007 uses ribbon so it's not traditional menu bar. The active item does have a gradient background.

Not ribbon. I was referring to Outlook 2007 which uses the traditional menu bar. It doesn't have gradient on the menu bar. And most importantly,I do think it looks better (more consistent) without the gradient under Office 2007 style.

You're right. Outlook menubar has solid background, but toolbar has gradient so it's conflicting in itself.

I can get around it by setOpaque(false) on my JMenu subclass. That works for now.
